Owen who?
I always wondered, why did he not return to liverpool after newcastle's exit from the premier league? Did he not want to return or wasn't he welcomed anymore?
being the master tactician and having an eye for class, fergie brought him to old trafford for free. some were sceptical about his presence there and said it was a gamble by the scotsman. but let me tell you this, form is temporary, class is permanent. Fergie tried to sign michael since he was 8years old but to no avail. now that he's able to do so, the wait has been worth every second.
Ok, i know it was a hatrick on a night that man u only needed a point. infact, man u needed none to appear top of the group, no matter if CSKA or Wolfsburg won. But this man michael was there to slot home the killer ball, time and time again like he's been doing so for the past decade. This man has lost his blistering pace, his featherweight figure and lightning reactions but let me tell you one thing he hasn's lost; his eye for goal. I used to think park ji sung was the man who was always at the right place at the right time to pick up on fumbled saves or rebounds. but this man doesnt need that, he creates goals from being there at the right place at the right time.
Him scoring a hat trick could not have been a big issue had he been someone else. but people, he is owen. his record puts him up there with the best. Ronaldo sweats his pants off with trickery and his dipping missile freekicks to get goals but this man roams the pitch like a man in a daze. he needs not squeeze and grind shoulders with defenders nor get tripped for 80mins of the match. he just finds the right space and slots home when least expected.
I see this could be a revival of owen's carreer. he's only 29 mind u, 30 in 5days time. we talk of him like he's 37 only because he's been in the game for so long yet being just as efficient from the first day he stepped on the pitch. they say he used to be so fast that a puddle won'e even ripple when he steps in it on the pitch. but this man has honed his mental sharpness and has proven to do him good. people try to come back from injury and find it hard as they also exhaust themselves mentally. but this man knows no end, at least not yet.
lets not make too big an issue of his hat trick but keep an eye out. he could be on the plane to south africa should his form continue to improve. i wish you all the best michael. to those whos been denying this man's ability, eat your words.
ps: owen's debut for man utd was against Malaysia's XI. keep an eye out for obertan too. he's starting to show the obertan we all saw on youtube.
Nice to see him back on his feet now. World Cup beckons.
